Zoysia Grass Fungus Pictures – Consultant in North Texas

Specialist Zoysia Grass Fungus Identification & Disease Diagnostics

If you notice your Zoysia grass turning brown, you may start looking for the best fungicide for Zoysia grass. You may also start searching for Zoysia grass fungus pictures to compare them with what your lawn looks like in North Texas. Ultimately, buying a bag of residential fungicide from Lowe's will probably not fix your problem. Home remedies and DIY solutions often fail to address the root causes of turfgrass issues, leading to further damage and frustration. At DFW Turfgrass Science LLC, our expert consultant has the knowledge and experience to diagnose and prescribe effective treatment plans based on the root causes of problems at your property. Pro Tip: Have you heard the old saying, "can't see the forest for the trees?" A fungus is not the forest; it is like talking about the tree roots. Problems with the "forest" have to be addressed first.

We understand the specific challenges posed by North Texas alkaline soil issues, climate issues, poor water quality, and terribly misguided HOA boards and landscape architects who mandated that two 30-ft-tall trees be planted on small properties with two-story houses. And our Zoysia grass consulting service ensures you have the detailed information to address all cultural practice issues on the property before wasting more money on fungicide.

Are Soil Testing and Disease Testing for Zoysia Grass the same processes in North Texas?

No. Not even close. Disease testing is done by microscoping/biopsying tissue, roots, stolons, rhizomes, etc. Soil testing involves drying soil, then extracting nutrients with various agents and chems. If you want to see pictures of our soil testing process, you can find them here: Professional Soil Testing Service in North Texas.

Does Peat Moss "Cure" Take All Patch or Take All Root Rot in Zoysia Grass?

No. Take All Patch (TAP) and Take All Root Rot (TARR) are soil-borne diseases, not foliar diseases. They are never curable, but they are manageable with minimal photosynthesis requirements for your grass type and regular rotational fungicide treatments. Is Zoysia Grass Better than St. Augustine?

In general, no. Some years, yes. They both have pluses and minuses, depending on your cultural practices and soil type. Unfortunately, people get it planted in their head (from landscapers) that there are always new magic grasses which will look "golf course quality" no matter where you toss the sod and no matter how you care for it. If you have 12 hours of direct sun, any type of grass is easier to care for, even with our poor soil and poor-quality irrigation water in North Texas. The less direct sun you have, the bigger the fight to keep it alive, let alone make it look like a putting green. Zoysia is a great turfgrass, but you can't throw new sod down under two 30-ft-tall trees, on top of diseased soil, then fertilize it with Scotts/Home Depot fertilizer 3X per year and expect to keep it healthy.

Is there a Best Fungicide for Zoysia Grass?

No. This is like asking if there is a best antibiotic for 50-year-old humans. Not all fungicides kill all types of fungus in Zoysia grass. And even when some do, they won't keep killing the fungus if you keep using the same fungicide, if you use it at the wrong rate (like too light), you don't apply it with the proper amount of water to set it in the soil, you don't let it set on the leaf blade long enough (if foliar disease, not soil borne) and the list goes on. Further, some of the best fungicides for certain diseases are not sold at Home Depot and/or are not labeled for residential use, only for the golf course industry.
